EasyEnglish Materials

EasyEnglish is a new Wycliffe Associates development. Many local people round the world have some knowledge of English, but their vocabulary and grammar is limited, so they can't read books written for native English speakers. Many pastors and church leaders could benefit if Christian books were written in easier English. We have developed specialised techniques for translating 'ordinary' English into EasyEnglish, using limited vocabulary and simple grammatical forms. We use these to produce easy-to-understand reading materials for people whose first language is not English. We are producing free EasyEnglish Bible Commentaries and studies suitable for church pastors who have had little training.

We also have an English Learner's Bible available for you to download that provides a very simply translation for those just learning English. Or, if you would like our team of translators to help by doing translations from ordinary English into EasyEnglish, please contact us.

Literacy Shell Books

Wycliffe Associates has produced a number of adult literacy booklets. These are "how to do it" booklets that deal with health, animal husbandry, small-scale farming and practical issues like simple construction techniques.

They are called Shell Books because you are provided with the shell of the book and simply pour in the text of the local language. Each booklet comes with a full document layout, suitable pictures (which can be modified to suit local cultural differences) and the full simplified text in English. You simply translate the text into the local language.

We produce these books in four main languages: English, French, Spanish and Portuguese. Each title is available in both Microsoft Word and Microsoft Publisher formats. You can find out more at our Shell Books site.

You may also be interested in a software product that enables you to create your own Shell Books. You can download a free trial of the Shellbook software which is produced by Shellbook Publishing Systems in the States.

This is an adventure game for children, aged 6-9 years old. CD-ROMs of the full game are available from your nearest office of Wycliffe Bible Translators.

Decisions! Decisions!

In this game, you are sent overseas as a missionary and then faced with having to make a series of decisions. Where will you live? What kind of work will you do? What kind of furniture or creature comforts will you buy? As you make each choice, bar graphs will grow, showing the numbers of months spent overseas and the results.

Worldwide Screen Saver

The Worldwide Screen Saver automatically starts up after your computer has not been used for a while. A dark world becomes light as the Christian worker brings the light of the Gospel. The program also shows a number of Bible texts to encourage Christians to become involved in the Great Commission which Jesus gave his disciples.

Discover Your Spiritual Gifts

This program can help you discover your gifts and see how they could be used in jobs to reach people with God’s translated Word. You can answer between 20 and 100 questions about yourself, your attitudes and your activities. Based on your responses, the program will calculate the spiritual gifts you have used most, complete with a list of printable scores and useful insights about yourself.

Pray Today

This Windows program starts each time you switch on your computer. Each day it gives you a new prayer request about a Bible-less people group. Included is the name, location, population and need for translated Scriptures. A great prayer reminder!
